"Invictus" by William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Hi everyone!   I wanted to share "Invictus" by William Ernest Henley because I was able to relate to it so much this week.  I've been having a rough couple of weeks and this poem really motivated me to think positively.  It tells us to keeping fighting and to keep trying no matter how difficult life is at the moment.  "Invictus" really pushed me to see that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.  I hope that this poem can do the same for you!

Have you guys ever had a really bad day where nothing seemed to go right?  What helped you get through those tough times?  Share!

  1. Hey Steffi! CHIN UP~
You have loving friends and family all around you! I hope things will start to turn around for the better!

Anyway, when I'm feeling a bit down or depressed, I like to just go and hang out with my friends. They do a good job of keeping me busy and happy. Eventually, I forget what was bothering me, or it helps me calm down and I can reassess the situation and reflect on it.

Thanks for sharing the quote, hun!

  2. Steffi!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm seriously moved by this and am interested to see the movie now!

When I'm not feeling so great, I love to break into my super old cd collection and listen to music from the late 90's and early 2000's.

I also like to dance jams with two of my best friends every so often. We'll find some studio space, plug in an ipod, and just create dances or improv to whatever song comes on. This literally puts me in the best mood!

Hope all is well and happy (almost) end of the semester!!
